Glencross Films is proud to announce that our epic documentary feature, “Bee People” starring Colorado’s own Gregg McMahan (“The Bee Guru”) and NYPD’s finest “Tony Bees” Planakis (“The Bee Cop”) is in the final stages of post-production.

“We are moving toward the finish line – like a bee line”, says director David G. Knappe who also shot and edited the film.  “We set out to make a safe warm and fuzzy film about beekeeping, but it morphed into an epic adventure”, he says.  “We couldn’t have been more pleased with the outcome.  It’s been a labor of love”.

The idea came almost as a fluke.  Mr. Knappe has long been a co-creator of high technology stories with his producing partner of many years, Leslie Ellis, who is a noted technology author herself and writes a weekly column for multichannel news.  Leslie became a first year beekeeper in 2011.  “One day, Dave made a comment on one of my Facebook pictures.  I was showing some bee bearding going on in my first hive and Dave commented, ‘Gee that would make for a compelling documentary’.  So I said to him, ‘Okay Hoboken (I call him “Hoboken”, he calls me “Denver”… long story), what would it take to make this happen?”.  Between Ellis’ flyer miles and Knappe’s Nikon DSLR camera package – a movie was born!  They interviewed many experienced and aspiring bee people all over Colorado.  Knappe then had an idea to fly the Bee Guru to go on a few adventures with The Bee Cop.  “Suddenly we had a great movie that just became epic”, the director smiled.
